Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA)

Do you have an ELSA on your team?

Now more than ever, schools need staff members who can deliver bespoke programmes of intervention to children who are struggling emotionally or socially.

Course Content

ELSA is an educational psychology led intervention that promotes emotional literacy in schools. At edPsychology Solutions the programme is delivered by Dr Zoe Owen, who holds the ELSA Quality Mark.

ELSA Training

The training element of the course consists of six days covering:

  • Theories explaining children’s emotional development
  • Understanding resilience and interventions that build it
  • Creating bespoke intervention programmes
  • Brains and Behaviour
  • Universal Trauma Informed Care
  • Understanding Autism
  • Teaching Social Skills
  • Developing Emotional Literacy
  • Effective intervention skills

The role title of ELSA may only legitimately be used by people who:

  • have attended / are attending an ELSA training course delivered by a qualified educational psychologist
  • regularly attend half-termly group supervision led by a qualified educational psychologist
  • are currently delivering bespoke programmes of support to individual pupils and sometimes small groups
