Specialist Advisory Support

Delivering interventions and supporting staff to effectively implement strategies and approaches to meet identified outcomes. Specialist teacher-type support provided by our Assistant Psychologists.

Provided by our Assistant Psychologists

Our Assistant Psychologists can deliver a variety of support packages, creatively tailored to your setting and children’s needs, which can fulfil requirements for regular specialist teacher involvement. Packages vary, but may involve initial observation, assessment (where necessary) to identify key areas of need, and development of personalised support plans or the delivery of social skills and emotional literacy programmes of small group work. Where assessment and advice has already been received, our Assistant Psychologists can work collaboratively with staff to support their understanding of the child(ren)’s needs, and how to effectively implement support strategies and deliver interventions independently in the future.

Ongoing Visits

Ongoing visits may focus on modelling and coaching, or co-delivery of intervention packages. Our aim is always to increase capacity to meet the variety and complexity of need in schools and we are committed to ethical and effective practice. Our delivery of support packages involve your staff in various ways, from ensuring key staff are aware of intervention content and goals so they can scaffold and reinforce children’s behavioural change, through to co-delivery of interventions, developing staff whilst meeting children’s needs.

  • 6 x 3 hr visits to support the implementation of EHCp strategies and approaches and to review progress towards outcomes

Includes support to develop personalised provision plans, modelling and coaching to enable staff to effectively implement strategies, reviews of progress to inform Annual Reviews, further assessment if necessary and written records of involvement.

Autism / Social Communication

  • 4-6 3hr visits to support implementation of action plan

Includes individual and environmental assessment to identify priority areas of need and inform bespoke action planning. Modelling and coaching to ensure effective implementation of strategies. Reviewing of plan, with written records of involvement. NB: a diagnosis is not necessary.

Prevention of school exclusion

Screening assessments to determine if unidentified SEN are implicated in unwanted behaviour. Development of a personalised plan to address identified areas of need and support social and emotional development. Signposting to additional services where necessary.

Circle of Friends

  • 3 x 3hr visits working with a member of your staff to provide experiential learning through supported delivery

Circle of Friends is a weekly intervention aimed at supporting peer groups to understand and support a child who may struggle to be socially included for a variety of reasons. Development of social skills occurs within social interactions, but those children who need the most practice, tend to have the least opportunities. Following a 1:1 session with your nominated member of staff to introduce the intervention, our Assistant Psychologists will deliver the whole-class and first small group session, with your staff member shadowing. Two further visits include 1:1 coaching / problem-solving sessions and co-delivery of small group sessions to ensure your member of staff feels confident to continue the delivery of an effective, evidence-based intervention.
